About the WorkAbility Programme

The Workability Programme funds local, regional, and national projects which provide progressive pathways into employment (including self-employment) through education, training, skills development, and in-work supports for people with additional needs based on their abilities and their potential.

Our Aim at Knockanrawley

The Knockanrawley WorkAbility Programme aims to ensure that people with additional needs are fully supported to find and maintain employment. Organisations which employ programme participants are supported to ensure that their employment is successful.

Who We Support

The primary target group for the programme is people with additional needs aged 16 years and over who are currently not work-ready and/or are distant from the labour market.

Projects funded under the WorkAbility Programme incorporate a strong focus on employer engagement, raising employers’ awareness and building their capacity to recruit, retain, and progress people with additional needs in their workforce.

Objectives of the WorkAbility Project

  1. The WorkAbility Project provides individuals with additional needs the opportunity to gain confidence and self-belief to progress to be work-ready and move closer to the labour market.
  2. We provide training and support focusing on a person-centred approach. Through a range of programmes, individuals are encouraged to identify areas of interest as well as areas of potential. Following this, a progression plan is formulated based on their preference, potential, and needs.
  3. Promotes positive pathways into education, training, and employment for participants.
  4. Provides individuals with additional needs the opportunity to gain confidence and self-belief to progress to be work-ready and move closer to the labour market.
  5. Provide training and support focusing on a person-centred approach.

Project Highlights and Achievements

The Knockanrawley WorkAbility Project has enjoyed many successes in the past and looks forward to many more in 2025.

We have a positive working relationship with many employers across Tipperary.

Key achievements include:

  • 3 participants currently attending agricultural college.
  • A student who has completed dry lining and retrofitting, and is now completing plastering — leading to full-time employment.
  • Over 20 students have successfully passed their Driver Theory Test, with most progressing to the driving test stage.
  • Strong progression routes into education, with students completing Level 4 General Learning courses in Knockanrawley, Spafield, and NLN.
  • Progression of participants into full-time and part-time employment.
  • All participants are supported for six months after exiting the project.

Financial Guidance and Supports

We understand the implications of working while receiving a disability payment. Therefore, we have built a strong rapport with the DSP (Department of Social Protection) and provide advice on all aspects to our participants and their families.

We also advise employers about the incentives available for hiring people with additional needs.

Community Engagement

We have played an integral role in launching the Progressive Pathway Fair, which provides information on all avenues available to people with additional needs.

Working with Tipperary ETB

Tipperary ETB works closely with the Knockanrawley WorkAbility Project. We have created a positive understanding of our participants’ needs, reflected in the courses and supports we receive from the ETB.
