Parent and Family Support Programme

A significant programme within the Community Development section is the Parent & Family Support Programme (PFSP). It is a programme of personal and educational supports for parents and families, including parenting skills and family communication, which will lead to improved family relationships. There are a number of groups under our PFSP including:

  • One-to-one support for parents
  • Two weekly parent support groups
  • Personal development for parents who parent alone
  • Parent, baby and toddler group
  • Support for parents in the Tipperary Autism Support Group
  • Rainbows – a peer support programme which aims to assist children grieving a death, separation or other painful transitions in their family
  • Summer camp and Halloween and Christmas parties/celebrations

The Parent and Family Support Programme runs three days per week.

Incredible Years Project:

The Incredible Years is a series of evidence based programmes for parents, children and teachers, supported by over 30 years of research. The goal is to prevent and treat young people’s behaviour problems and promote their social, emotional and academic competence. The Tony Ryan fund provided the funding for this countywide programme, which allowed our PFSP worker do the 3 day training to enable her deliver the programme to parents. Additional funding from ESB / Electric Aid meant the PFSP worker could increase her hours to allow her recruit for and deliver the programme. The PFSP worker facilitated the Basic Preschool Programme in conjunction with a worker from the 3 Drives Family Resource Centre between September and December of this year. Nine people participated in the programme. It ran for 14 weeks on Monday mornings from 10-12.30pm
